Sew What was born from a community need—to give girls a safe space to create, learn, and build lasting friendships.
Our 2 week program brings young girls between the ages of 8-14 together, cultivating friendships, creativity and exploring philanthropy, in a creative space where they learn the art of sewing and design.

“My children have been part of Sew What for 6 years and look forward to camp every summer. They’ve grown in confidence and skill - Beyond sewing, they’ve gained patience, focus, and leadership, as a parent I’m amazed by their growth each year. Sew What is more than a program—it’s family, and we’re grateful to be part of this community.”

The Importance of access to education and arts
As a girl growing up in the Bay, I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and working in Africa. When my late grandmother taught me to sew at age nine, I knew I held the tool I needed to bring that dream to life.
I have been blessed to build my life on that lesson and to pass it on to hundreds of children in the Bay Area and Uganda.
At BayGanda, we believe any child who can dream can achieve—and we are equipping them with the tools to do so. Our students are not only designers, but changemakers and dreamers shaping a brighter future.” ELF
